The Mystery of the South Bridge
Characters: Leo (a high school student), Emma (Leo’s cousin), Mr. Adams (an old man)
(Scene 1: In the Subway)
Leo: “I can’t solve this problem! My history teacher expects me to understand all these recent events, but it’s so boring.”
Emma: “Don’t argue with your book, Leo. Look, the next stop is North Station. We need to get off at South Street, remember? Our cousin Mike is waiting for us.”
Leo: “I know, I know.” He looked at the calendar on his phone. “We have a regular meeting every month. But today, I feel so weak and tired. I just want to go home, put on my slippers, and eat some yogurt with honey.”
The subway train was crowded. A man was listening to loud music with a heavy drum beat, which started to disturb Leo.
Emma: “Hey, what’s that?” She pointed to a separate piece of paper on the seat. “It looks like a map.”
(Scene 2: Meeting Mr. Adams)
Leo and Emma got off at South Street and met Mike under the big bridge. Mike looked excited.
Mike: “You won’t believe what I found! This map reveals the location of a hidden garage near the old rocket factory. It belonged to my grandfather.”
Emma: “A hidden garage? What’s inside?”
Mike: “I don’t know. But the map says the key is with his old friend, Mr. Adams, who lives in that house over there.”
They walked to a small house. An old man with a piercing gaze opened the door. He was holding a walking stick.
Mr. Adams: “Yes? What do you want? If you’re here to sell something, I’m not interested.”
Mike: “Hello, sir. My grandfather was Thomas. He gave me this map.”
Mr. Adams’s emotion changed immediately. “Thomas! Come in, come in.” He walked slowly, his heel making a soft sound on the floor. “I injure my leg many years ago overseas,” he explained. “So now I’m a bit weak.”
Inside, he showed them an old photo. “The main feature of this mystery is a special accessory for a car. Your grandfather was a great inventor.”
(Scene 3: The Hidden Garage)
Mr. Adams gave them the key. “It is necessary to be careful,” he warned.
They found the hidden garage. It was dark and smelled old. Leo turned on a light.
Emma: “Wow! Look at that old car! And what are those thin metal parts on the table?”
Mike: “This must be the invention! But a piece is missing. How can we solve this?”
Leo noticed something. A small, heavy box was starting to sink into a dusty shelf. He opened it. Inside was the missing part!
Leo: “I found it! It was beyond those old tires.”
They put the accessory on the car. It didn’t work.
Mike: “I don’t understand. We have all the parts.”
Emma: “Wait. Grandfather’s note says ‘the force of water’. Maybe we need to put water in it?”
They found a tank and filled it with water. Suddenly, the car’s engine made a quiet sound! It worked!
Mr. Adams, who had followed them, had tears in his eyes. “Thomas finally finished his dream. He wanted to make a car that used water, not drug or fuel. He was a great man.”
(Scene 4: The End)
On their way home, they took the subway again.
Leo: “I was wrong about history. It’s not boring. It’s full of amazing stories! This whole course of events was incredible.”
Emma: “Yes, and you learned an important etiquette today—always be polite to old men, they might have amazing secrets!”
Leo: (Laughing) “And I also learned that I need new slippers; my heel hurts from all that walking!”
They all laughed. For Leo, it was a day beyond his regular life, a day he would never forget.

Leo’s Summer by the Sea
Leo felt a little sick from the long bus ride. He was going to spend the summer with his aunt in a small town by the sea. Leo was a bit shy and worried about making new friends.
His aunt’s house was on a quiet corner. On his first day, he went for a walk. He saw a man flying a colourful kite and a woman wearing a beautiful red scarf. He walked past a small restaurant that sold western food. The smell of frying food made him hungry. He saw a waiter carrying a metal plate with a plastic cup.
The next day, his aunt said, “Leo, there’s a river near here. It’s a popular place to surf. Your partner for the summer project, a girl named Mia, will meet you there. She’s waiting by the big tree.”
Leo was nervous. When he saw Mia, she was drawing in a notebook. She looked up and smiled. “Hi! You must be Leo. I’m Mia. Our project is to clean up the rubbish on the beach. It’s a big deal for the town.”
Leo nodded. “Okay. What’s the main disadvantage of this beach?”
“People leave too much trash,” Mia said. “We need to divide the work. You can start by picking up the plastic bottles. I’ll get the paper and metal cans.”
As they worked, Mia pointed. “Look at that crowd of people over there. They’re watc
